Recruitment: Welcome

A LETTER FROM OUR VICE PRESIDENT OF MEMBERSHIP

Dear Potential New Member,

Recruitment is a unique experience, and if you’re anything like I was, you might be going into it with a mix of excitement and uncertainty, but don’t worry, that’s completely normal. The most important thing to keep in mind is that this experience is about you. It’s about finding a place where you feel comfortable, confident, and completely yourself. It’s easy to overthink what to say or how to act, but the most important thing you can do is show up as your authentic self. The right chapter won’t make you feel like you need to change to impress anyone, it will be the place where conversations come naturally, where you feel comfortable, and where you can simply be who you are.

For me, that place ended up being Delta Zeta. I didn’t join because everything looked perfect or because of how cute the house was decorated, I joined because I was looking for something real. I found girls who let me be completely myself, who don’t just accept my weirdness, but join in on it. The kind of people you can laugh with over nothing, be honest with about everything, and just exist around without ever feeling judged. Those are the moments that did, and still do, let me know that Delta Zeta is my home.

During my time in Delta Zeta, I’ve had the opportunity to serve as Vice President of New Member Education and Vice President of Membership.Through these roles, I’ve grown in my leadership skills, gained confidence, and experienced opportunities I know I wouldn’t have had otherwise. Leadership was very out of my comfort zone when first coming into college, and something I never saw myself doing. I am so grateful to have found a community that pushed me out of that comfort zone and encouraged me to learn new things, and to always believe in myself. It’s truly changed me for the better.

More importantly, I can say without a doubt that I’ve found my forever people. Friends who lift me up, challenge me to grow, make me laugh until I can’t breathe, and who I know will be by my side long after college ends.

Delta Zeta is the kind of place where people show up for you, encourage you when you need it most, and celebrate you for exactly who you are. There’s a constant sense of support, not just in the big moments, but in the everyday ones too.

I’ve seen how impactful this process can be, and my biggest advice is to trust where you feel at home. Try not to focus on where you think you should be, focus on where you actually feel like you belong.

What matters most is that you find your place, wherever that may be. Trust your instincts, be yourself in every conversation, and follow your heart to where you feel at home.

You deserve to find a place that feels like that.

Wishing you the best throughout recruitment,

                                                                                                             DZLAM,
                                                                                                        Sarah Thornton
